Testimonials
The first time I read an article by Ed Hess I knew he was the perfect
person to work with my management team in leadership development. He
overwhelmingly exceeded my high expectations. Without a doubt he provides
the most in-depth, yet practical and applicable lessons in leadership I
have ever witnessed. His sense of humor and humility make him incredibly
approachable. These qualities along with an exceptional combination of
classroom skill, group & personal engagement and meaningful reading
assignments made for an incredible experience that is already producing
great results in my organization. Thank you Ed - this course will benefit
the SOS for years to come!

Hixon Properties is a fifth generation, family-owned real
estate business with almost 100 shareholders throughout the U.S.
Ed has led us through a strategic planning process that has energized
the company, its shareholders and management. His knowledge of
the real estate business and more importantly, the manner in which
large families interact and communicate has been invaluable throughout
the process. Ed's approach is practical, inclusive and results-oriented.
The structural changes that he has inspired in Hixon Properties
will make for a stronger company and closer family. As we are
confronted with family issues in the future, we will continue
to draw upon Ed's advice. He is a very wise man!

I read with great interest your article on Entrepreneurial Leadership. I
don't think I've ever read anything that so concisely captures my personal
leadership philosophy. Frankly, at the Small Business level we are so
busy focusing on the ball in front of us that we know what we do and why
but don't often spend much time articulating it. However, we do believe in
principle-based leadership and actually use this term internally. We
believe that every single decision is part of an overall pattern and must
be based on either an operating or ethical principle. We believe that your
principles will guide you when you don't know what to do and in the end
will protect you from making bad decisions. We have found that many
times the principles themselves are unclear and that you have to be spend
the time crystallizing what the principle is. Procedures change -
principles don't but in the end all you have, especially during a tough
time, is the trust of your people. You are also so correct in that the
execution is the hard part. Anyway, I don't want to write an epistle but
I would love to talk to you about this. Your article is a great one and I
will share it with my people. Thank you.
