This
book is based on the premise that there are six
basic management tools that can be utilized by you to gain
more control over your life and to increase your probability of
achieving what is important to you. Using these six tools daily
will help you prioritize, focus, act, make decisions, and learn
daily. Living
an achieving life is a daily process and will become a daily habit.
This book
is written for the tradeperson, craftsperson, professional, service
worker, homemaker, and anyone who can read, who has common sense,
and who wants to take more control over his or her life, and who
wants to achieve more. This book is not a business theory book.
It is written for the non-business person. This book is not a
fast read. This book is neither a quick fix nor a one-time prescription.
To be successful you have to learn to apply these six tools daily
to your life. You have to do it and do it and do it, over and
over, until they become part of you.
Excerpt from Make it Happen!:
To manage your life for success you have to prioritize and
focus. You have set forth a list of your goals and objectives
for your life and for the six compartments of your life -- work,
play, family, community, spiritual, and relationships. You listed
your goals under each compartment. Then you prioritized the
six compartments and goals.
In the strengths and weaknesses analyses you set forth the
skills, attributes, or qualities which you either want to improve
on, or acquire. You have a "to do" list. You have
your objectives. Now you need to set daily, weekly, and monthly
goals which move you toward accomplishing what is important
to you. Frequent movement toward your goals is the key. Most
people do not focus daily on accomplishing their goals.
Most people get off the track too easily. Most people do not
know how to manage their time effectively. To manage your life
for success you have to learn to say NO. You have to focus on
doing what is important to you. You have to limit distractions
and nonessential activities. Focus, focus, focus.
A positive attitude and having the courage to try is far more
important in achieving success than either intelligence or pedigree.
